10 people get treatment due to dehydration

MEDICAL teams stationed around the Taman Hj Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien (Soas) treated 10 people, mostly due to dehydration, during His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 66th birthday celebration yesterday.

Lieutenant Pg Hjh Saliza Pg Hj Ibrahim, medical coordinator of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Medical Cover, said most of the people who received treatment took part in the march and "experienced dizziness, diarrhoea, and difficulties in swallowing. Most of them are dehydration-related cases from being under the hot weather".

Lt Pg Hjh Saliza said the figure was much lower than the approximately 40 cases compared to what they had received during the National Day celebrations, "most of whom were participants from the march past".

"Even this morning in the previous weeks during the rehearsals, we received over 30 cases. But today, Alhamdullilah, it is not as much", she said. "The reason for this is quite simple and can be attributed to the hot weather which can easily cause a person to dehydrate."

Lt Pg Hjh Saliza added that some of the people who sought medical attention had skipped their morning meal, which could also be a contributing factor.

"Most of our patients are from the civilian and not the military," she explained.
