His Majesty says daily workout keeps him fit

HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, who recently turned 66, shared with The Brunei Times yesterday that keeping himself fit comes with exercising every day.

The ruler spent the entire morning moving about and mingling with his rakyat of the Brunei-Muara District, starting from the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien all the way to Lapau in the capital.

The caring monarch did not even pause for a second to take a break throughout the meet-and-greet session.

Even the stuffiness under the tents due to the masses swarming around him vying for a chance to shake hand, obtain autographs and capture memorable snapshots with him, did not deter His Majesty from keep going.

The Sultan showed no signs of fatigue, nor did he stop for a while despite being on his feet throughout the get-together.

As the session was drawing to a close, The Brunei Times approached His Majesty at the Lapau for a short exchange.

His Majesty was again kind enough to consent to answer a few questions on his impressionable physique, fitness and steps the public can take for leading a healthy lifestyle.

The Sultan replied with a gentle laugh, saying: "(I) exercise every day."

His Majesty then said the public too should "exercise every day".

Laughing jubilantly in jest, the monarch added: "they (public) should be doing exercise non-stop."

Over the past four days, the benevolent ruler has been spending time with his rakyat in four districts as part of his birthday celebrations.

His Majesty said he had enjoyed them (birthday celebrations) all "very much", and ended the interview, saying: "I am looking forward for Ramadhan."

The sovereign was accompanied by HRH Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; HRH Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah; HRH Prince Hj Jefri Bolkiah; HRH Prince 'Abdul Malik and HRH Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
