MOTORISTS are urged to be more cautious when driving on the roads following an alarming spike in the number of road accidents previously.

Speaking to The Brunei Times during the meet and greet session in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam recently, Head of Kg Pengkalan Mau and Bekiau Hj Mohd Taib Hj Jaludin said that road accident has been a serious concern.

"Let us not to forget this, sometimes accidents take place not due to bad road conditions, but it is determined by our driving behaviour," said Hj Mohd Taib.

A police report early this month recorded that there were 67 cases of road accidents, or it was doubled compared to the previous week.

"We must be vigilant when driving on the roads," he added, lauding the launch of the Demerit Points System which was launched to improve driving behaviour and produce prudent drivers.

"Alhamdulillah, with the demerit points system, it can at least provide warning to motorists on the roads to take extra care when driving and not violate the traffic regulations," he said. The Brunei Times
