A BRUNEIAN woman has been arrested by the Royal Brunei Police Force yesterday as a suspect of the recent snatch theft of some $18,000 worth of jewelry.
Police however, are still investigating the case against 23-year-old woman according to a police spokesperson updating the media on the incident which occurred on Wednesday in the capital.
The incident was reported to have been caught on CCTV, which captured the face of the woman. The woman is also alleged to have dropped her personal identification card and driving licence.
When contacted yesterday, the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) spokesperson noted that they had immediately investigated the address on the ID card, but had not able to locate the woman on site.
Police said that they began checking other contacts and places where the woman could be staying, including friends and family.
Two bracelets and four necklaces worth over $18,000 was reported to have been stolen.
Media reports stated that the woman had been pretending to buy several sets of jewellery from the shop before committing the alleged theft.
Meanwhile, the RBPF has recorded 46 cases of theft from June 24-30,2012.
According to SM 1892 Zainal Abidin Sahari during a Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) Rampai Pagi TV programme and Radio Show, the thefts occurred at personal residences, government buildings, shopping malls and parking areas.
Among the items reported stolen were mobile phones, computers, broadband router, cameras, a television, a car battery, a refrigerator, a boat engine, watches and jewellery.
Two cars were also reported missing; a white Toyota Kijang (BJ 6508) reported missing and last seen at the Melabau building, Kg Serusop, and a brown coloured Toyota Vios (BAC 3142) reported missing from Block C of the Abdul Razak building, Gadong.
Other criminal offences included, two rape cases under Section 376 of the Penal Code, two cases of prostitution under Section 294 of the Penal Code, six assault cases under Section 323 of the Penal Code, four cases of cheating under Section 417 of the Penal Code, nine cases of vandalism under Section 427 of the Penal Code, two attempted trespassing cases under Section 441 of the Penal Code, among others.
Other offences were also recorded such as three cases under the Customs Act involving smuggling of rice, cigarettes and alcoholic beverages, and three cases under Drug Abuse Act, while a further eight cases were recorded under the Labour Act.
Meanwhile, the Investigation and Traffic Control Unit (JSKLL) under RBPF reported 67 cases of road accidents, leaving one seriously injured. In a breakdown based on districts, 45 of the cases cases occurred in Brunei-Muara followed by Belait District and Tutong District with 15 and seven, respectively.
