ABOUT 60 staff members from Takaful Brunei Darussalam Sdn Bhd attended a tahlil ceremony for His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's late parents, Al-Marhum Sultan Hj Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit, at the Royal Mausoleum, yesterday.

The ceremony was also accompanied by its two subsidiary companies, Takaful Brunei Am Sdn Bhd and Takaful Brunei Keluarga Sdn Bhd.

It was led by the imam Hj Mohd Daud Hj Abd Kadir.

Attending the event as the guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa Mejar General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad Hj Daud, chairman of Takaful Brunei Darussalam Sdn Bhd.

Also present was the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Religious Affairs Hj Abdul Aziz Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Mohd Yussof and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Managing Director Javed Ahmad.

Takaful Brunei Darussalam Sdn Bhd was formed in 2010, following the merger of Takaful IBB Berhad and Takaful BIBD Sdn Bhd, in line with the requirements of the Takaful Order 2008.

Since then, the two companies have transformed into subsidiaries, Takaful Brunei Am Sdn Bhd and Takaful Brunei Keluarga Sdn Bhd.

The move was aimed to reinforce the nation's Islamic banking sector.

The Islamic Banking Order 2008 by the Finance Ministry, under the consent of His Majesty,

saw a legislation introduced to regulate the activities of the domestic takaful industry. It also provided a level playing field between the conventional and takaful insurers and generated greater awareness on the benefits of Islamic finance. The Brunei Times
