THE Kg Perpindahan Mata-Mata Mosque committee continued its annual Tadarus ceremony yesterday at a residence in Kg Pengkalan Mau.
"We have been doing this over the past decade since 2002. It has become an important religious activity during the fasting month for the congregants from our mosque," said head imam Hj Mahari Hj Metusin in an interview.
A group of 60 congregants, comprised of 35 males and 25 females, participated in the ceremony to "reap the blessings of Ramadhan".
The religious activity, which commenced after the Asar prayer, involved a mass recital of selected chapters and verses from the Quran, followed by the ritual of breaking the fast after the mass Maghrib prayer.
Besides motivating the congregants spiritually, Hj Mahari told The Brunei Times that the Tadarus ceremony is also an opportunity for them to forge closer ties with the community.
He explained that the annual religious activity takes place at 10 selected houses nationwide during the fasting month. This year, the Tadarus ceremony commenced on July 23 and will continue until August 3.
"However, Quran recitals shouldn't be exclusive to Ramadhan," he advised, adding that Muslims should continue to read the holy book throughout the year.
The head imam encouraged Muslims to make the Quran recital "a daily habit" in order to benefit from the deed. "Of course, since the rewards are multiplied during the fasting month, we should intensify our efforts," he said.
Present as the guest of honour at the ceremony was village head of Kg Perpindahan Mata-Mata, Pg Hj Mohd Salleh Pg Hj Abd Rahman, in his capacity as advisor of the mosque committee. The Brunei Times
