PERBEKAL looks for more youth participation

THE Kampung Lambak Youth Association (PERBEKAL) are looking for more members, especially youths.

Currently the association has over 50 members comprising senior citizens and youths from Kg Lambak. In 2002 they had around 200 members but many are no longer active.

Pg Hjh Halijah Pg Hj Damit, a member of PERBEKAL who is responsible for the management of religious activities told The Brunei Times that the youth members of the association are mostly graduate trainees from the Youth Development Centre who live in Kg Lambak.

She said PERBEKAL welcomed more people to join especially the association, especially youths.

She explained that one of the aims of the association is to strengthen ties between youths and more senior members and have them participate together in national events and events organised by PERBEKAL.

The events that PERBEKAL involved are more towards strengthening community ties and that would be beneficial to its members. Pg Hjh Halijah said that among the national events that PERBEKAL participate in is the Maulidur Rasul celebration.

The association also has a calendar of events and activities which includea bazaar and Hari Raya gathering, she added.

Apart from these, PERBEKAL also give financial aid for its members who are in need. The donation come from the PERBEKAL funds which are sustained by monthly collection from its members.

During the month of Ramadhan, PERBEKAL will be conducting more religious activities such as the tadarus

Yesterday the opening of the tadarus was held at the Youth Centre in Bandar Seri Begawan. More than 20 members of PERBEKAL took part, as well as members of the Kg Lambak mosque Muslimah group and representatives from the Women's Council of Brunei Darussalam.

At the opening of the tadarus, the whole first juzu' (chapter) of the Quran was recited.

The readings of the participants were supervised Pg Hjh Halijah to make sure that their readings were correct. This process of correcting while listening to someone read is called tasmik, she said.

From doing the tasmik, how well a person reads the Quran can be evaluated.

The PERBEKAL tadarus will be continued throughout the month of Ramadhan. It will be held at the homes of its members.
