Gifted Bruneians get gold in S Korea

TWO Bruneian students clinched gold medals at the fourth ASEAN+3 Student Camp for the Gifted in Science (ACGS) which was held in South Korea from July 23 to 30.

David Lim King Hwa from Jerudong International School and Nazihah Hipni from Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (Maktab Sains) were two of six students who reaped awards for their six-member delegation.

In addition to the two gold medallists, Joyce Lim Chai Tze from Maktab Sains won a silver medal as well as the Best Leadership award, Best Friend award, and a full scholarship to Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Young Future Scientists Conference or ACGS Student Camp in 2013.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Syahmi Hazmi Hj Mat Sarudin, Muhammad Faez Hj Awg Tajudin and Samuel Chin Yun Chen from Maktab Sains each got bronze medals.

"We are extremely pleased with all the students who have done Brunei proud with their outstanding performance and effort at the ACGS Student Camp," said accompanying teachers Edna Maria Hj Osman from Rimba Secondary School and Hjh Noor Linda Hj Nasir from Katok Sixth Form Centre in a Press statement yesterday.

The students and the two teachers were chosen by the Ministry of Education to represent the Sultanate at the student camp and the Gifted Education Teacher Workshop.

The workshop was carried out under the theme of 'Sustainable Development'.
