MinDef receives US official

DEFENCE relations between Brunei Darussalam and the United States continues to strengthen following a courtesy call paid upon the Deputy Minister of Defence Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Hj Sirat, recently.

Nirav Patel, Deputy Assistant of State for Strategy and Multilateral Department of States in the US, met with Dato Hj Mustappa on August 6 at the Ministry of Defence (MinDef).

According to a statement, discussions on shared interested particularly concerning current political development in the region took place between the Deputy Minister of Defence and Deputy Assistant of State during the courtesy call.

"The visit... underscores the strong and friendly defence relations between Brunei Darussalam and the US, which has continued to grow and strengthen over the years," MinDef said.

It was also further stated that the visit provides opportunities to explore areas of mutual defence cooperation between the two countries. Brunei Darussalam and the US signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation on 29 November 1994.

The MoU serves as a framework for fostering closer defence relations and cooperation between the defence establishments and armed forces of both countries.
