A ROAD Safety and Enforcement Operation was conducted by the Department of Investigation and Traffic Control of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) with the Land Transport Department in several places and districts on Saturday.
The RBPF said that the operation produced 38 speeding compounds at the highway leading to the Rimba Air Force, and 37 speeding compounds at the juntion of traffic light access road to the Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah. The intersection of Sungai Liang in Kuala Belait have 39 speeding compounds.
RBPF said in a statement that it hoped the operation would remind the public of the importance of vigilance when driving, especially during the festive season, while always ensuring that the vehicles that they drive are in good condition.
The RBPF would also like to remind the public that demerit points are imposed on the offender in terms of speeding offenses and depending on the speed of the vehicle.
As an example, a motorist who violate the speed limit to reach more than 40km/h will receive a total of 12 demerit points. In the event that the motorist received more than 24 demerit points within a year then his driving licence will be suspended for three months.
The RBPF advice and remind members of the public, especially road users, to always do a regular check on vehicles, obey the traffic laws and regulation, be highly attentive and focused in driving.
They also called on motorists to buckle up safety belts, to be extra careful with the surroundings, to be considerate and instil a good behaviour in other road users, to switch off all mobile phones while driving, as well as to bear in mind that the main road are not engineered for racing.
