Man to be sentenced for insulting modesty

A TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD man has pleaded guilty to uploading obscene photographs of his ex-girlfriend on social networking site Facebook.

The defendant Muhammad Syakirin Hj Hamdani pleaded guilty to two charges insulting the modesty of a woman and circulating obscene articles and will be sentenced by the Magistrate's Court on September 13.

The court heard that the defendant, spurned by his ex-girlfriend's rejection, uploaded a photograph of his ex-girlfriend on Facebook wearing just her undergarments.

The victim, Miss X, had originally sent the defendant the picture of her wearing a body-hugging corset through a private Whatsapp message.

When she told him she intended to end their brief relationship, Muhammad Syakirin threatened Miss X by saying he would send the photograph to her family, shops and upload it on Facebook.

She stopped replying his messages on September 5 and by the next day, her niece informed her that the photograph had been uploaded to a Facebook account, which she later discovered belonged to her ex-boyfriend.

Miss X filed a police report and the defendant was brought in for questioning. He confessed to uploading the photo to the website through his mobile phone.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, will be sentenced on September 13. The Brunei Times
