His Majesty calls for the inclusion of less fortunate youths to help them succeed
HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang-Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam issued a royal call yesterday for more attention to be paid to the less fortunate among the youth in Brunei.
"Instead of marginalising them, they must be provided with opportunities to participate in integrated programmes to make them feel appreciated and to strengthen their confidence so that they too can contribute towards national development," said His Majesty in his titah at the National Youth Day celebration.
"National Youth Day," His Majesty said, "is crucial to value the achievement of the developing youth towards achieving the objective of Excellent Bruneian Youth as spelt out in the National Youth Policy. Excellent Youths are youths who are devout, educated, responsible and determined.
"Bringing forth an excellent youth requires the involvement of all parties including the individual, the family and the general community.
"Moreover in an era of increasing globalisation, there will be numerous challenges and setbacks in our efforts to bring forth excellent youths, including challenges in the areas of education and employment.
"This is why, youths have no choice but to continuously improve their abilities and skills. Only in this way can individuals hope to become excellent youths," stressed His Majesty.
His Majesty also took the opportunity to remind the youths to not forget their hereditary customs, traditions and national identity in their journey towards accumulating knowledge.
The monarch said he believed youths today would make use of knowledge obtained from educational institutions both locally and abroad, to make the right choices in the face of these challenges.
"I hope to see the youths of Brunei double their efforts towards increasing their fervour to succeed in any area they wish to pursue," said His Majesty.
His Majesty added that the involvement of the youths in the country's development process was highly crucial and he was proud that a large number of youths have obtained higher qualifications both at the tertiary education level as well as the vocational field.
The monarch reiterated that less fortunate youths be given guidance to help then become dedicated individuals who will contribute to the nation's growth.
