THE first round of selection for the Photographic Competition held in conjunction with His Majesty's 62nd birthday has been completed, with a total of 2,409 entries narrowed down to 617 for the four themes.

After the first round of selection, 195 entries have been shortlisted for the Celebrations theme, 172 for Cultural Heritage, 148 for People, and 102 for the Environment.

The competition received a total of 699 entries for the Celebrations theme, followed by 670 entries on People, 524 entries on Cultural Heritage, and 516 entries on the Environment.

Organisers The Brunei Times and the Information Department shortlisted the entries with the assistance of a representative from the Brunei Photographic Society and the Brunei Darussalam Association of Photographers.

Entries which did not meet the rules of the competition were eliminated. These include images with less than the required pixels, images which did not reflect the theme, and images that lacked technical expertise.

The second round of selection has been scheduled for next week. The panel of judges will select 20 entries each from the four themes to compete for the final round in early September.

The Photographic Competition is sponsored by Brunei Shell Petroleum, Sahid Sendirian Berhad, TSL Construction Sdn Bhd and GHK Motors Sdn Bhd.
