AFTER launching in December 2005, Expansys Technologies initially began as content provider on the then newly launched B-Mobile 3G mobile network.
Expansys has now expanded its scope of work to provide a variety of mobile communications software, hardware as well as customised server solutions.
Some of their earlier success includes the development of an SMS Gateway service for both the government and public sector in Brunei.
Most notably for the younger generation is that the company has successfully launched a Facebook application called YouGotSnapped. YouGotSnapped is a free, easy-to-use application that lets people buy and sell full-resolution copies of Facebook user's favourite Facebook photo albums.
"Facebook have what they call an API, which is an application programming interface," explains Expansys Managing Director Keeran Janin, adding that means Facebook has opened up how the social networking portal code to outside software developers.
This allows easier access to develop applications for the popular networking site.
"So we can go in and develop the applications, and before it goes in we actually have to submit it to Facebook for their approval," Keeran says. "Once it has been approved, it goes out into the open as long as it conforms to the specific rules set out by Facebook," he adds.
"It's not entirely difficult," he admits, "but a lot of programs get rejected." Applications need to follow the feel and look of Facebook, and they also need to adhere to aspects such as privacy settings and all the other aspects that has made Facebook so popular.
"When you make an application for them, it attracts more people to use it and generates more revenue for them," says Keeran.
For Expansys, it was another platform to show not just what they could do, but hopefully kick start new trends or inspire other people in Brunei to get with and follow their lead. The Brunei Times
