EASYWAY BUNUT demolished TJP 111-32 last night to notch up their third victory in Group A of the Under-23 category of the Basketball Youth Cup at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.

Easyway Bunut, made up of the reserve players of the Brunei Barracudas, saw Muhd Mohzani Abd Ghani lead the team with 14 points while Hj Md Rahmat Hj Suhaili contribute 13.

On the other hand, Fakhri Hj Bangkul led TJP with nine points.

It was no contest from the start as the Easyway Bunut players were better in every department compared to their opponents.

Their size advantage and experience helped them to open up a 29-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Easyway Bunut were getting their points easily from fastbreaks off TJP's turnovers and eventually opened up anunassailable lead at 63-18 going into halftime as they cruised to victory.

"The team played well tonight (Tuesday). However, I think that there is still room for improvement at the defensive end," said Afif Khalidi, the assistant coach of Easyway Bunut.

"What we are aiming for now is to ensure that we can make it to the semi-finals," added Afif.

In the day's early match, Easyway Delima cruised to their third straight victory with a 99-43 triumph over OSP in Group A of the 18 years and below category.

Jeff Lee led all scorers with 26 points and Yeo Chun Kiat poured in 22 points.

On the other hand, Danny Liaw and Welfred Phang each scored 12 points for OSP to a losing cause.

"The performance of the team was good tonight (Tuesday). Everyone on the team scored but we haven't met any real challenges yet," said Khoo Chin Kai, the Easyway Delima captain.

Asked about their chances of making the semi-finals, Khoo replied: "I believe we have a good chance but we'll give it our best shot and go the furthest we can in the tournament."

The competition continues today with Blitz taking on New Plus Optical in Group B of the Under-18 category at 7pm. The second match will pit favourites, White Haven, against SOON in Group A of the Under-23 category.
