QAF FC started 2010 on the right note after thrashing Brunei Shell Football Team (BSFT) 10-0 last night.

Remaining top of the DST Group Brunei Premier League (BPL) I after the convincing win at the Berakas Sports Complex, Cameroonian midfielder Viban Francis Bayong and Hardi Bujang impressed with hat-tricks for the defending champions in their first match of the year.

Still second-bottom in the 10-team league with only one win from 13 matches, BSFT's performance looked that of a team playing in the BPL II — and that is exactly where they will be next season if they don't pull up their socks during the rest of the campaign.

Bayong started the goal-fest in the 19th minute when he converted from the penalty-spot after Mardi was brought down in the box by Khairul Azhar Khairul Anuar.

Bayong created the second goal in the 30th minute when he held off a defender just outside the box on the left side-line and passed the ball to Mardi, who scored with a cheeky back-heel past Md Faidhiren Yahya in the BSFT goal.

It was 3-0 a minute later when Bayong controlled a long-ball from midfield and unleashed a powerful shot from just outside the box which was destined straight for goal.

Md Akmal Hakeem Abd Hamid could have scored for QAF a couple of minutes later but his header sailed wide off the left post.

He made amends for his miss when he turned provider for the fourth goal, picking out an unmarked Riwandi Wahit inside the box and watching the captain chest the ball down and easily volleying home.

A one-two with Bayong saw Hardi's twin, Mardi, create space for himself and net after gliding past his lethargic marker.

BSFT's passing was helpless and their control of the ball even more so. Combined with QAF's mastery of the midfield, the game's outcome was never in doubt.

BSFT's defenders still looked like they were on holiday and Riwandi punished them a minute before the break when he latched on to a through ball and scored his second, with only Md Faidhiren at his mercy.

Half a dozen goals to the good going into the second period, QAF did not ease up the pressure and were already celebrating three minutes into the half.

It was a surprise that none of the goals came from inspirational teenager Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman, who got the assist on the seventh goal which left-back Ratano Tuah scored after receiving the striker's pass from the left.

Ratano repaid the deed when he ran up the left-flank in the 55th minute and provided a low pass to Hardi, who only had to redirect the ball into goal to make it 8-0.

Bayong could have made it nine goals a minute later but he failed to control a pass from Riwandi and the ball rolled inches wide of the right post.

The beefy Cameroonian had another chance five minutes later but he was only able to rattle the post with a ferocious volley from inside the box.

Ratano was the provider for the ninth goal as well, his square pass picking out Bayong who was lucky to walk the ball in after recovering from a fumble in the 66th minute.

The QAF fans were hoping for double digits and Hardi did not let them down.

The ex-DPMM FC midfielder completed his hat-trick three minutes from time after making the most of another defence-splitting pass from Hamizan.

Meanwhile at the Penanjong Camp in Tutong, ex-DPMM FC players stood out during the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council's (MS ABDB) 2-1 win against Indera FC by scoring all three goals.

Defender Safari Wahit opened the scoring for MS ABDB in the 31st minute and made it 2-0 ten minutes later, with midfielder Azwan Salleh netting seven minutes after the restart.

At the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas, Majra FC beat bottom of the table NBT FC 3-0.

Captain Md Julremi Hj Zaini scored the first goal from the penalty spot in the 37th minute. Adi Said made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute and Mohd Faizal Mohd Zimi Hj Bakir sealed the win with a goal in the 90th minute. The Brunei Times
