HOSTING the 2019 SEA Games will not be a problem for Malaysia, the country's Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek (pic, second from left) said yesterday.
"The cost is not as huge as hosting the Asian Games, and futhermore, we have all the facilities needed," he told reporters in Kemaman, Terengganu, during a visit to the Malaysian State.
He was responding to a statement by Olympic Council of Malaysia honorary-secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi on Friday that Malaysia's chances of hosting the SEA Games that year had not been affected although the government had cancelled its bid to host the 2019 Asian Games.
Indonesia will host the SEA Games next year followed by Myanmar (2013), Singapore (2015) and either Cambodia or Brunei in 2017.
The Malaysian Cabinet three weeks ago decided not to go through with the bid to host the 2019 Asian Games because it was cost prohibitive.Bernama
