Brunei forfeit due to unusual circumstances.
THE Brunei Barracudas were humiliated 87-48 by the KL Dragons in a game that never reached the final buzzer yesterday.
Playing at the MABA stadium in Kuala Lumpur, the Barracudas' fourth game was already lost before any of the players even stepped onto the court.
Brunei's first professional basketball team were without the services of their head coach Bong Ramos and the duo of American Chris Commons and Filipino Chester Tolomia due to red eye.
This meant that the Brunei team were left with only seven available players, who unfortunately fouled out till one was left standing, resulting in forfeit with under eight minutes to play.
"When we arrived Thursday morning, we realized that some of our players including our head coach caught the red eye," said Benny Ang, the manager of the Barracudas during an interview with The Brunei Times after the game.
"We actually requested the ABL to postpone the game but they have their reasons not to. We respect that decision," he said.
"We saw the doctor this morning (Saturday) and he said it was fine for them to play as it is not contagious. But ABL didn't allow them into the stadium. They have their reasons and we respect that," added Ang.
After careful consideration the ABL executive decided it was in the best interest of all players that the three Brunei players who may still have been in the infectious stage of the infection should not be allowed to take part in the game.
American import Chris Garnett put in an 18-point effort for the Barracudas while Bryan Faundo and Ramsey Williams added 14 and 12 points respectively.
Alex Hartman had the game-high of 24 points to pace the Dragons and Nakiea Miller contributed a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
The victory puts the Malaysian team on a 2-3 win-loss record while the Barracudas fall to 1-4.
