TANG Boon Huat (TBH) kickstarted their campaign right on track last night.

They proved to be too much for their opponents after running away with an 86-68 victory over Beruncits in Group B of the Goh Hock Kee (GHK) Trophy Men's Basketball Tournament at the Chung Hwa Middle School Basketball Court in Tutong.

Four players hit double figures for TBH with Suen Chuen Shew leading the way pouring in a game-high of 19 points and Loo Zhi Hung added 17 points. Leong Ming Seng contributed 15 points and Glen Chong managed to chip in 10 points in the victory.

On the other hand, Gideon Fong was the top scorer for Beruncits while both Justin Yong and Kenny Yong added 10 points in a losing effort.

The game started out with both teams shorthanded as only five players were available. Fang Bo Yuan, who had all his eight points in the first quarter, got hot early to put his team up in front 16-10 heading into the second period.

TBH had a faster lineup and were utilising their speed to get in front to score quickly. They had the advantage on the boards but good shooting by Beruncits did allow them to stay in the game. Penetrating through the defence and good defence allowed TBH to extend their lead to 38-23 at half time.

It was the same story in the third quarter as TBH were putting up some pressure defence giving their opponents plenty of problems getting the ball up court. The game was running way from Beruncits as TBH were pushing the ball up quickly with outlet passes and the lead ballooned to 60-33 going into the final stanza.

There was just no way back for Beruncits as they ran out of steam that saw them fall to their third loss seeing them fall out of the competition.

The second match saw Cyberise notch up their second straight victory with an 83-55 triumph over We Are Electric in Group A.

Cyberise, who are coming off a 54-45 over Chevrolet after coming back from a 17-point second half deficit on Saturday, saw five of their players hit double figures in the win.

Koh Wee Chian had the game-high with 19 points and Tan Ye Wei added 16 points. Chiok Chung Hwa contributed 14 points while Shim Jan Ting and Kerwyn Wong chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively in the triumph.

On the other hand, only Teo Chee Jie got into double figures for We Are Electric while Lim Wee Hao came in second best on the scoresheet for his team with nine points in a losing effort.

With the lineup before the match started, it seemed like it may be obvious who the victors were going to be. Cyberise were a much more experienced team compared to their opponents who probably just hit their teenage years. The game seemed like it would never turn around when Cyberise had got in front 31-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The third game last night saw Agogo/TTGC defeat TOTAL 79-55 in Group C.

The competition continues today with TBH going up against Elsie Sports in Group B at 6.45pm. The second game pits Agogo/TTGC against Sia N Tan in Group C at 8.15pm.
