A LATE rally secured them a spot in the final of the Goh Hock Kee (GHK) Trophy Men's Basketball Tournament.

Agogo/TTGC executed well down the stretch to beat Tang Boon Huat (TBH) 80-66 in the semi-finals last night at the Chung Hwa Middle School basketball court in Tutong.

The win sets them on a final date with Chevrolet Cruze, who edged Cyberise 73-70 in the other semi-final match.

Lim Liang Wei put up big numbers for a game-high of 34 points to pace Agogo and Ahmad Termizi Nordeen added 17 points in the victory.

Three players hit double figures for TBH with Kin Suen pouring in 19 points. Leong Ming Seng and Akhbar Abdul Hamid added 14 and 11 points in a losing effort.

Agogo got off to a slow start while their opponents had no trouble hitting their shots from the outside.

TBH were also moving the ball around to conserve energy as they started the game with just five players.

Agogo, on the other hand, were hampered by foul trouble with their playmaker Ahmad Termizi picking up two quick fouls in the opening period allowing TBH to take a 19-15 lead heading into the second quarter.

It was a different affair in the second period with Agogo playing good transition basketball.

Ahmad Termizi was doing plenty of damage by driving to the hoop and dishing out to Lim to finish off under the basket.

Suen was getting his shots to fall to help keep TBH in the game to stay within 35-39 at halftime.

Things were beginning to slip away with TBH who had only eight players lacing up for the game.

Stamina was a major concern and Agogo would exploit this to extend their lead to as large as 10 points.

There were problems for them once Ahmad Termizi picked up his fourth foul midway through the stanza.

TBH went on the offensive and got the deficit down to a single possession but Agogo were doing a good job on the boards that allowed them to carry a 59-53 advantage into the final stanza.

The game remained close and it was going down to the wire with the scoreboard reading 62-59 midway through the period.

With good team effort, Agogo managed to pull off a 9-0 run at that point and never looked back as TBH ran out of steam towards the end of the game.

The final will begin today at 8.15pm right after the third-place playoff which is scheduled for 6.45pm.The Brunei Times
