BOTH the Ministry of Development (MoD) and the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) emerged triumphant in their respective finals of the Inter-Ministry Futsal competition at the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas yesterday.

Two goals from Pg Momin Pg Muhammad and one goal from ex-national player Hj Rosanan Abdullah Samak powered MoD to the crown of the Veteran's category, helping the team to a 3-0 win over the Ministry of Communications (MINCOMM).

The Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) rounded up the final spot on the podium.

MINDEF managed to hold on to a 1-0 win over the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) in the open category final.

The third place went to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

MINDEF manager Captain Pg Md Mufid Pg Hj Umar Ariffin was pleased with the performance of his players, his offensive minded game plan paying off when Ak Kamarul Zaman scored the only goal for the team.

"The strategy is to attack in the formation of a square, we waited until the last few minutes of the second half. Alhamdulillah the goal finally came," said the manager.

The Ministry of Education (MoE), meanwhile, were dominant in the netball finals held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, going on to win both the open and veteran categories.

They capped off a 34-29 victory against MINDEF in the open category final.

Third place went to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) while MoHA were made to settle for fourth.

In the veteran's category, MoE repeated their triumph over MINDEF for the crown with MoD settling for third.

In badminton, MoH captured top honours by winning three games to two against MoE in the final at the Pusat Belia Sports Complex in Bandar Seri Begawan last night.

The first game saw Hj Mohin Hj Momin and Uday Kumar Umesan of MoH defeating the pair of Pg Shahminan Pg Hj Md Salleh and Pg Suhaimi Bin Hj Bakar 20-22, 21-13, 21-18.

The MoH doubles team came storming back after dropping the second and the third game, tying the series at two each with a 21-10, 21-6 win via Ak Nor Iskandar Pg Omar and Hj Rahim Hj Kasim.

The final game saw MoH men's doubles duo of Hj Jimidin Hj Emran and Shahromi Ramli defeating Ismail Othman and Muhd Eddy Abdullah to help their team to gold.

"The Ministry of Health has been in the semi-finals many times before. To win it tonight means a lot to us," said MoH badminton team manager Roslan Jailanee.

"We expect our team to win the first three set before the game, but MoE gave us a really good fight" he added.

MINDEF and MoHa shared third place in the tournament.

The women's category was won by MoE who defeated the Prime Minister Office's team in the final.
