EIGHT-YEAR-OLD cueist Md Haiqal Qarin Hj Haironi Hamizin (pic) surprised the crowd as he booked his berth in the quarter-final of the inaugural Under-18 9-ball Pool Championship 2012 in his first tournament at the Billiards and Snooker Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas yesterday.

Being the youngest in the tournament, Md Haiqal Qarin defeated Mohammad Faiz 5-1 in his first match. The second match saw Md Haiqal Harin defeated Nafijah Awg Joaini 5-3 in the group B.

Sixteen-year-old Nafijah, the only female cueist in the tournament defeated Abdul Wafiy in her first match with the scoreline of 5-1. Despite losing to Md Haiqal Qarin in her second match in the group B, Nafijah advanced to the quarter-final after being given a walkover by Mohammad Faizal in the loser sides match.

Meanwhile, Hj Khairuddin Hj Hasnan who lost to Ahmad Taufiq 5-0 in the National 8-Ball Pool Tournament last month had a bad start earlier in the game as he lost to Awg Md Marzuki 5-3 in group A. Despite progressing to the next round, Hj Khairuddin was unhappy with his performance.
