THE Universiti Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) football team and Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) played to a 2-2 draw during Monday's Institutes of Higher Learning (Institut Pengajian Tinggi/IPT) Sports Carnival.

An email from a member of the tournament's working committee yesterday stated that UBD beat UNISSA 2-0 during the opener on Sunday, with the day's other match ending in a 5-0 win for ITB over KUPU SB. The day's third game saw Polytechnic Brunei beat IGS 4-1.

Held for the first time, the tournament saw the Universiti Brunei Darussalam football team beat IGS College 3-0 during Sunday's other game.

All games were contested at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Sports Complex's field.

Organised by the Ministry of Education with the cooperation of ITB, the week-long event is set to come to a conclusion on Saturday.

The competition is made up of students from UBD, UNISSA, ITB, Polytechnic Brunei (PB) and invitational sides Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) and International Graduate School (IGS) College.

Four sports are being contested; badminton, football, futsal and netball.

ITB were crowned champions of the netball competition on Monday, with UBD coming second and UNISSA third.

PB were the biggest winners during Monday's badminton competition after picking up nine points with UBD and ITB each going home with six.

KUPU SB and IGS each won three.

Held at the Sports School in Kg Pulaie, the badminton competition had ITB beat PB 3-2 during Sunday's opener. KUPU SB beat UBD 4-1 while IGS defeated UNISSA 3-2.

The email stated that the ministry is looking at the tournament as a stepping stone to establish larger scale events.

The event also hopes to better prepare the student-athletes to represent Brunei in international inter-collegiate meets.
