THE NATIONAL basketball team kept their title defence hopes alive by beating 10-time champions Miri 62-59 during yesterday's 14th Borneo City Men's Basketball Invitational Tournament in Labuan.
The defending champions were handed a 64-59 defeat by Kota Kinabalu during Friday's opener at the Labuan Multipurpose Hall, but with yesterday's win, they remain in the running for the title if they beat the hosts today.
Kevin Reece's men won the trophy for the first time after going undefeated during all three of last year's games in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
The women's team are also still in the race for the trophy despite losing 65-48 to Miri yesterday.
They got their campaign off to a winning start after beating Labuan 74-55 on Friday and will face Kota Kinabalu in today's final match.
