CS COLD Storage opened their campaign in the Goh Hock Kee (GHK) Trophy Men's Basketball Tournament with a 100-29 demolition of Asiq Aisyah in Group B yesterday at the Tutong Chung Hwa Middle School Basketball court in Tutong.

Four players hit double figures for Cold Storage with Lim Liang Wei scoring a game-high of 24 points. Leong Ming Seng added 17 points while Khoo Chin Kai and Ng Swee Zhi contributed 12 and 10 points respectively in the victory.

There was not much competition right from the start with Cold Storage showcasing their dominance.

Lim opened his account with 12 points in the opening period, with Leong and Khoo adding eight and six respectively to see them up 26-9 going into the second quarter.

Cold Storage went with their bench and were rotating their players.

There was not much difference as Asiq Aisyah were not able to put up a fight that saw them fall further to trail 46-15 at halftime before Cold Storage ran away with the win.

Cold Storage coach Pong Bing Chau was trying to get the most out of the match.

"We haven't had any training sessions prior to the tournament so we treated the match as a way to get things together," Pong told The Brunei Times after the win.

The team comprises of players that competed in the 2012 Village Mutual Aid Association Basketball Open Tournament last month where they won bronze.

They are the favourites for this year's edition of the competition. They have added Yap Chun Ping, Faizuladzmi Tajuddin and Cavan Kong into the roster to forge a formidable lineup.

"There are only a few changes to our side though and we are targeting to at least reach the semi-finals. But of course winning the whole thing is the ultimate goal," said Pong.

The second match of the night saw defending champions Chevrolet Spark play against GS Cafe in Group A.

Results of the match could not be obtained as of Press time.A total of 11 teams separated into two groups are competing for top honours in the tournament.

Group A comprises of six teams with JCWE, TEPB OPP, Comtech and NVP being the other while Group B are made up of five teams Alex Kong Motors, Flex-Link Enterprise and LSL Chainblock completing the list.
