AMY HEAH thought she had won a lucky draw when she heard her name called over the loudspeaker at a shopping mall.
To her amazement, the prize turned out to be an engagement ring and a marriage proposal.
The surprise from her boyfriend of two years Victor Ooi at Gurney Plaza yesterday left the self-employed 26-year-old lost for words.
When she nodded her head in acceptance, the crowd of onlookers cheered. "Will you marry me?" Ooi getting on his knees to propose to Amy at Gurney Plaza in Penang.
They had known each other through mutual friends. And even though Ooi, 34, works in Shenzhen, China, the distance was no barrier to their romance.
As he only returns to Penang several times a year for celebrations such as Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival, he said it took a lot of understanding, plus help from modern technology to keep in touch. "Thanks to today's gadgets, we talk to each other without fail every single day," Ooi said.
Plastic surgery ten times to look like anime girl
SINGAPORE Sin Chew Daily reported that a fashion designer in Singapore went under the knife 10 times just to look like an anime girl with sparkling big eyes and a heart-shaped face.
The 29-year-old woman, known as Jacqueline, spent $136,000 on plastic surgery and correction jobs after she failed to lose weight.
She had dieted and exercised for months to shed excess weight after putting on 6kg in 18 months about two years ago. "I am not out for fame. I just want to help other women become pretty or even prettier than me," Sin Chew quoted her.
