'Snow-White' born in village cut off by blizzard

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

A BABY born in a Croatian village cut off by a blizzard is to be called "Snow-White", the Sata internet news site reported Sunday.

Her mother, Marta Glavota, 30, called emergency services for help to deliver the baby, but snow, which has been falling since Thursday, closed off all access to her southern village of Vitusa.

Emergency services got to within four kilometres of the village before being forced back.

A doctor then called the pregnant woman and gave advice over the phone to two neighbours, who assisted in Sunday's birth of the black-haired girl Snjezana, meaning Snow-White in Croatian.

Both mother and daughter are doing well, Sata said.

Miss Piggy to present BAFTA awards in Britain

THE organisers of the BAFTA film awards in London have unveiled Miss Piggy as one of the show's hosts, promising spiky questions for Hollywood luminaries George Clooney and Brad Pitt. The glamourous pink star of "The Muppets" will be the red carpet host of the British Academy Film Awards 2012 on Sunday, the organisers said yesterday.

She is honing her flirting skills as she prepares to meet Best Actor nominees Clooney, Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Gary Oldman and "The Artist" star Jean Dujardin at the Royal Opera House in London.

"Imagine the likes of Clooney, Dujardin, Fassbender, Oldman and Pitt achieving the very pinnacle of their careers by getting a chance to speak with the one and only moi Miss Piggy," she said.

"Naturally, I will be asking questions that only moi would dare to ask."

The bejewelled pig even challenged "The Descendants" star Clooney who is currently dating former wrestler Stacy Keibler to a bout on the red carpet.

Miss Piggy declared: "I don't wrestle girlfriends. However, if George wants to wrestle, bring it on. Best two out of three falls? Winner gets a dinner?" AFP
